In a groundbreaking convocation ceremony held in the Metaverse on Sunday, BITS Pilani conferred degrees upon 6,600 working professionals across 26 diverse programs. Simultaneously, 900 students experienced the event in person. The distribution included 5,183 MTech degrees, 1,641 MBA degrees, 70 BTech degrees, and another 70 MSc degrees.
The exclusive organization of the Convocation was orchestrated by the Work Integrated Learning Programmes (WILP) division of Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani.
A spokesperson for the institute declared, “This marks a significant milestone as arguably the first convocation in India tailored for working professionals on such a large scale, particularly by a preeminent higher education institution in science, engineering, and management domains.”
Approximately 900 professionals actively participated in the convocation at BITS’ Hyderabad campus, receiving their degrees in person.
BVR Mohan Reddy, Founder and Executive Chairman of Cyient and former Nasscom Chairman, delivered an inspiring address urging graduates to continuously acquire new skills and tools throughout their lives. He emphasized the importance of holding onto ambitions and avoiding mediocrity, urging graduates to “constantly aim for excellence.”
V Ramgopal Rao, Vice-Chancellor of BITS Pilani, stressed the critical role education plays in meeting the dynamic needs of various sectors such as IT, IT-enabled services, manufacturing, electrical and electronics, banking, financial services, insurance, pharma, and healthcare.
“For over 43 years now, more than 1.14 lakh working professionals have benefited from the institute’s work-integrated learning programmes,” Rao noted, underlining the sustained impact of the institute’s commitment to advancing professional education.
