Bandai Namco Entertainment has unveiled plans for the Gundam Metaverse Project, including a limited Beta test set to kick off this October, along with the commencement of pre-registration for the app.
During a press conference today, Gundam Chief Officer Koji Fujiwara shared that the Gundam Metaverse will be accessible to Japanese and American users from October 6th to October 17th.
The primary platform for this service will be PC, with Fujiwara noting that users can also access a simplified version of the services via their mobile devices.
Fujiwara further revealed that virtual reality (VR) integration is currently in the works.
The upcoming beta test will primarily focus on Side-Gunpla, allowing users to scan and showcase their Gunpla creations to the broader Metaverse community. These creations will find a home in the User Generated Content (UGC) Museum, a collaborative effort with Sony’s scanning technology.
In addition to the Gunpla display, the Gundam Metaverse beta will feature a central hub area where players can interact and an online store offering exclusive Gunpla. Notably, at present, the store will only be accessible to Japanese users.
Fujiwara also confirmed plans for a second beta test for the Metaverse project, scheduled for the spring of the following year.
The Gundam Metaverse Project, in development for some time, aspires to serve as a global social hub connecting Gundam enthusiasts worldwide.
Initially envisioned with multiple facets, such as Side Esports focusing on games like the now-shut-down Gundam Evolution and Gundam Battle Operation 2, as well as a Side Anime, the project aims to provide a shared space for fans of the iconic Gundam franchise to unite and engage.
