Meta (formerly Facebook) has extended its Horizon Worlds metaverse to Android and iOS, aiming to attract new users. The move comes as Meta seeks to promote the metaverse as a practical technology beyond gaming.
However, despite Meta’s claims of 200,000 monthly players, a YouTuber’s investigation found Horizon Worlds nearly empty and populated by children, raising safety concerns.
Meta responded by introducing enhanced safety features and tools for parental supervision, but questions remain about their effectiveness.
Interest in the metaverse concept has declined significantly since Meta’s rebranding, and the company’s VR division, Reality Labs, incurred significant losses in 2022.
The extension of Horizon Worlds to mobile and web represents an effort by Meta to revive the project, but its success remains uncertain.
