NFL Rivals, a widely acclaimed mobile football game developed by Mythical Games, has unveiled a novel feature that allows players to procure NFT player cards from the secondary market through its iOS and Android applications. This innovative update follows Google’s recent announcement to support NFT purchases and in-app integrations on the Android Play Store.
To unlock this capability, players of NFL Rivals must have attained a user level of 4 or higher. Upon reaching this threshold, they can access the “Improve My Roster” option within the team roster menu to acquire suggested NFT player cards. Presently, it’s important to bear in mind that the game does not yet provide a comprehensive marketplace browsing experience; instead, it offers a limited selection of suggested player cards for acquisition.
Over the upcoming months, Mythical Games plans to test diverse in-game marketplace integrations. The ultimate aim is to enable players to both purchase and sell NFTs directly within the iOS and Android game. At present, users can solely vend NFL Rivals NFTs and explore the complete range of listed NFTs via the web-based Mythical Marketplace. Any procured NFTs are securely stored within the user’s Mythical account and can be activated for utilization within the NFL Rivals game.
To engage in NFT purchases through the application, players must use the game’s novel in-game currency called Credits. It’s pertinent to note that these Credits are not a form of cryptocurrency.
Mythical Games’ approach mirrors the strategy employed by Stepn, another move-to-earn game, which introduced an in-game currency specifically tailored for procuring NFTs. However, a noteworthy distinction exists. The NFTs accessible within NFL Rivals maintain uniform pricing for buyers, irrespective of whether they are acquired via the mobile app or the web marketplace. Conversely, Stepn’s in-game NFTs within its iOS game often bear a higher cost to accommodate Apple’s in-app purchase fees.
Since its soft launch in April, NFL Rivals has garnered over 2 million downloads, solidifying its status as a popular free-to-play game. As it propels forward, Mythical Games plans to transition its NFTs from the Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible blockchain to the Polkadot blockchain.
