KuCoin, a prominent global cryptocurrency exchange, has announced that its European arm, KuCoin EU Exchange GmbH, is seeking a MiCAR license in Austria. The license will enable the company to offer crypto services across all 30 countries in the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA), ensuring secure, regulated digital asset services.
Vienna has been selected as KuCoin EU’s new European headquarters. The city was chosen for its stable legal environment, clear cryptocurrency regulations, and access to top-tier talent. KuCoin values Austria’s efforts in safeguarding investors while fostering a secure and innovative space for cryptocurrency enterprises.
KuCoin’s CEO, BC Wong, highlighted the importance of the MiCAR license in the company’s strategy for European expansion. The license will allow KuCoin to offer localized, safe crypto services to users in the EU and EEA, while enhancing transparency and regulatory compliance in the digital asset sector.
The appointment of Oliver Stauber and Christian Niedermueller as Managing Directors of KuCoin EU marks another significant step in the company’s European expansion. Both seasoned professionals bring extensive legal and financial expertise to the role. Stauber, former General Counsel and Managing Director at Bitpanda, expressed excitement about the opportunity to transform the crypto landscape in the EU, emphasizing KuCoin EU’s commitment to regulatory adherence and innovative solutions.
Niedermueller, former CEO of another European crypto exchange, shared his enthusiasm for building a strong local team and increasing KuCoin’s brand visibility. As a long-time KuCoin user, he is particularly proud to support the company during this critical phase.
Once KuCoin EU secures the MiCAR license, it will be able to offer a full suite of crypto services across the EU under EU regulations. The company aims to accelerate blockchain adoption, bolster the EU’s position in the global cryptocurrency market, and ensure compliance, trust, and security for its users.
