Aptos Labs has unveiled Shardines, a new blockchain execution engine that enables horizontal scalability and allows the Aptos network to process up to 1 million transactions per second (TPS).
A Major Breakthrough in Blockchain Scalability
Announced on February 5, Shardines achieves near-linear throughput scaling by decoupling consensus from storage. This approach enables independent scaling, optimizing the network for maximum throughput.
- 1 million TPS for non-conflicting transactions
- 500,000+ TPS for conflicting transactions
- Achieved on a 30-machine cluster
Aptos Labs emphasized that scalability is essential for the future of Web3, enhancing DeFi, gaming, crypto payments, and digital economies.
Zaptos and Other Key Developments
This announcement follows Zaptos, another recent Aptos innovation designed to reduce end-to-end latency and achieve sub-second finality at 20,000 TPS.
Other key milestones for Aptos include:
- Native USDC support
- Integration with Chainlink
- Deployment of Aave v3
With Shardines and Zaptos, Aptos continues positioning itself as a leader in blockchain scalability, paving the way for high-speed, low-latency decentralized applications.
