Reports of Ledger co-founder Eric Larchevêque being kidnapped surfaced online today but were swiftly debunked.
The rumor originated from a French account on X (formerly Twitter), which claimed that a Ledger executive had been abducted, with the alleged kidnappers demanding a Bitcoin ransom. Although the post did not name Larchevêque directly, it included his photo and suggested that French authorities, including GIGN, were investigating in Vierzon, France—near his estate. The supposed abduction was said to have taken place in the neighboring town of Méreau.
Gregory Raymond, CEO of The Big Whale, quickly dismissed the claims, stating, “We can confirm that @EricLarch (co-founder of @Ledger) is not involved in the kidnapping rumors about him.” He also cautioned that spreading unverified information could interfere with active investigations or put lives at risk.
Initially, media outlets like Foresight News reported the claims but later confirmed they were unfounded. The Bitcoin Vanguard, one of the first to mention the incident, referenced an ongoing police inquiry but failed to provide any concrete evidence supporting the kidnapping allegation.
Neither Larchevêque nor Ledger has issued an official statement regarding the rumors.
