Binance Futures has unveiled a new trading option with the launch of SONICUSDT perpetual contracts, available from January 8, 2025, at 15:00 (GMT+8). These contracts offer traders the opportunity to utilize leverage of up to 75x, providing significant flexibility in trading the SONIC market. The contracts will be settled every four hours in USDT, with funding rates capped at ±2.00%.
This new product coincides with Binance’s ongoing migration from Fantom (FTM) to Sonic (S) tokens, which is expected to open up additional trading opportunities within the Futures market. As part of the transition, Binance has announced a 1:1 token swap, enabling FTM holders to convert their tokens into Sonic (S) tokens seamlessly. This transition will also see the delisting of all FTM trading pairs on January 13, 2025.
The full migration to Sonic tokens will be completed by January 16, 2025, when the new trading pairs—S/USDT, S/BTC, and S/BNB—will officially launch. Binance is ensuring that the swap process for FTM holders will be automated, removing the need for manual intervention.
The SONICUSDT perpetual futures contracts are designed to allow continuous trading without an expiration date, giving traders around-the-clock access to the market. These contracts are also compatible with Binance’s multi-asset margin system, which means traders can use a variety of assets, such as Bitcoin, to meet margin requirements, offering greater flexibility compared to traditional USDT-only margin accounts.
However, it is important to note that the introduction of SONICUSDT perpetual futures on Binance Futures does not guarantee its listing on Binance’s Spot market. As with all perpetual contracts, key parameters such as leverage, funding rates, and margin requirements may be subject to adjustments depending on market conditions.
The transition to Sonic tokens introduces new features, including an incentive program for developers and governance opportunities, marking a shift in Binance’s efforts to align with evolving blockchain projects. Users are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the changes, particularly as the Sonic ecosystem begins to take shape.
