The Solana GameFi network Sonic, a layer – 2, gaming – centric Solana – native network, plans to airdrop free SONIC tokens to TikTok users who join its crypto game. The SonicX game, built on the Solana (SOL) Virtual Machine protocol, is directly integrated into TikTok, similar to how The Open Network developed mini – games for Telegram.
The concept behind this is to tap into the existing web2 audiences for web3 projects. With over 1 billion monthly active users on TikTok, and the number expected to reach over 2 billion by 2029, it presents a vast user base.
SonicX, the first TikTok App Layer from Sonic SVM, will distribute $SONIC tokens to all eligible TikTok users. So far, over 2 million users have joined through a seamless onboarding process that requires no external wallet setup or gas fees.
Social media – native games have seen popularity on platforms like TON and Telegram. Projects such as Notcoin and Hamster Kombat managed to amass millions of users in a short period. However, this trend has been short – lived. After token airdrops, these protocols experienced a sharp decline in activity. For example, Hamster Kombat lost over 80% of its users right after distributing its cryptocurrency. Crypto giants like Binance and Gate have also reported a drop in the vitality of Telegram mini – apps.
