Australian computer scientist Craig Wright, who long claimed to be Bitcoin’s creator, has been found guilty of contempt of court and sentenced to 12 months in jail, with the sentence suspended for 24 months.
In March, a U.K. court ruled that Wright was not Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin. This followed Wright’s £900 billion intellectual property claim over the Bitcoin whitepaper and key code databases. The Crypto Open Patent Alliance countered by suing Wright in the U.K. to disprove his claims. Prominent Bitcoin community figures like Adam Back testified against him.
After COPA won and Wright was declared “Not Satoshi,” he committed contempt during his attempt to assume Nakamoto’s identity. The Guardian reported that Wright refused to disclose his location during sentencing and said he would appeal the verdict.
