President-elect Donald Trump is preparing to shift U.S. policy towards a more crypto-friendly stance, with the ambitious goal of establishing the country as the “crypto capital of the planet.” As part of this initiative, Trump plans to appoint pro-crypto candidates to key financial regulatory roles, positioning the U.S. as the global leader in cryptocurrency innovation and adoption.
According to reports, Trump’s team is considering well-known crypto advocates for leadership positions at major regulatory bodies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Among those being considered are Hester Peirce, known as “Crypto Mom” for her support of a more open regulatory approach to digital assets, and Daniel Gallagher, a vocal critic of the SEC’s aggressive stance on crypto regulation. Gallagher, currently with Robinhood, is seen as a potential replacement for Gary Gensler, whose resignation is expected by the end of the year.
Trump’s administration has already engaged with crypto industry leaders to discuss potential regulatory reforms. The push for a clearer and more supportive framework has garnered optimism within the crypto community, with figures like Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson expressing a desire to collaborate with the government to develop consistent regulations that would benefit the industry.
Trump’s strong pro-crypto stance has already made an impact on the market, helping Bitcoin surge to a new all-time high of over $89,000. Many investors are hopeful that the incoming administration’s policies will provide a favorable regulatory environment, fueling further growth in the crypto market.
However, not everyone is on board with Trump’s crypto agenda. Critics, including economist Peter Schiff, have voiced concerns about the potential risks of a national Bitcoin reserve, warning that it could undermine the stability of the U.S. dollar. Despite this opposition, Trump’s team remains committed to making the U.S. the world’s leading hub for cryptocurrency.
