Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen has made a significant cryptocurrency donation, contributing $1 million in XRP to support Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign. The donation was made to Future Forward USA, a political action committee backing Harris, according to a report by Eleanor Terrett.
Larsen’s contribution follows his public endorsement of Harris in September and brings his total donations to over $1.9 million, reflecting strong support for her candidacy. The donation comes at a pivotal time as Ripple continues to battle the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over the classification of XRP as a security. The legal battle, which began in 2020, remains ongoing, with both Ripple and the SEC filing appeals after the lawsuit concluded in August.
Kamala Harris and the Crypto Community
This move highlights the growing influence of the cryptocurrency community in American politics, as both Democrats and Republicans aim to attract crypto supporters. While Harris has remained relatively quiet on the topic of cryptocurrencies, her recent comments on promoting emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and digital assets have generated interest.
In an effort to engage more actively with the crypto community, Harris’s campaign team launched the “Crypto4Harris” initiative in August. This initiative aims to build a pro-crypto policy framework and foster better relations with the digital asset industry, countering Republican efforts to court crypto voters.
As the 2024 election approaches, the intersection of cryptocurrency and politics continues to play an increasingly significant role in shaping campaign strategies.
