Seoul-based SK Telecom Co. has unveiled a strategic move to fortify its presence in the Southeast Asian metaverse market through a collaboration with three prominent IT companies in the region. The telecom giant has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CelcomDigi Berhad of Malaysia, Agate of Indonesia, and Cosmic Technologies of the Philippines to foster a publishing partnership for its metaverse platform, ifland.
CelcomDigi Berhad, a leading telecommunications company in Malaysia, joins forces with Agate, a renowned game developer and publisher in Indonesia, and Cosmic Technologies, an Internet of Things (IoT) platform provider and device supplier in the Philippines. The MOU aims to propel the growth of ifland’s user base across Southeast Asia.
In this collaboration, SK Telecom will spearhead service planning, content creation, and operational management. The partner companies will contribute by developing region-specific content, driving marketing initiatives, and providing first-tier customer support.
To cater to the diverse metaverse market in Southeast Asia, SK Telecom plans to enhance ifland by incorporating new features. These enhancements include language support for Indonesian, Malay, Hindi, and Spanish, and the development of curation features to recommend content tailored to the unique characteristics of each region’s customers.
SK Telecom initiated the global expansion of ifland in November 2022, launching the platform in 49 countries. The recent partnerships mark a strategic effort to solidify SK Telecom’s position in the burgeoning Southeast Asian metaverse landscape.
