With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the role of NFT (Non-Fungible Token) technology is transcending its traditional function of safeguarding digital art copyrights. Instead, it is venturing into uncharted territory, broadening the realm of art, and offering diverse implications for the future of the art world.
The NFT 2023 Seoul Conference, held at Coex in southern Seoul, shed light on the future roles of NFT technology. The conference, themed “the Utilization and Role of NFT Art in the Future Art,” featured speeches by CEOs and technology experts with profound insights into AI, the metaverse, blockchain technology, and NFTs.
The session commenced with a keynote speech by Cha In-hyuk, former CEO of CJ OliveNetworks. Cha underscored the profound impact of generative AI on the content creation market. Generative AI has the potential to revolutionize content creation across various mediums, including texts, images, music, and videos, by leveraging diverse input-based algorithms.
Cha envisioned a future in which AI technologies and NFTs serve as more than just “quick monetizing tools” for businesses. He proposed that they could also play a pivotal role in rejuvenating humanity on a global scale by preserving our values and protecting the uniqueness of each individual.
The importance of community was a focal point in Mariko Nishimura’s speech. Nishimura, co-founder and CEO of Heart Catch, highlighted how owning an NFT artwork can transform individuals into digital villagers in depopulated Japanese villages like Yamakoshi. She advocated for the integration of art into businesses, emphasizing its capacity to stimulate “innovative thinking” among entrepreneurs.
Aleksandra Artamonovskaja, lead partner of Joyn.xyz, explored the role of decentralized curation in creating opportunities for emerging artists from diverse communities to showcase their work in virtual galleries. She emphasized that decentralized curation promotes “transparency” by allowing audiences to access information about the open-call process, curators’ identities, the number of submissions, and the criteria used for shortlisting artworks.
Singaporean best-selling author Andy Lian, known for “Blockchain Revolution 2030,” asserted that despite a decline in trading volume, NFTs are far from fading. He highlighted the promising potential of NFTs, which can thrive in the expanding markets of AI and Web 3.0. Lian emphasized the synergy between AI and NFTs, enabled by advancements in AI technology, resulting in the creation of unique digital assets.
Lian also hinted at the need for artists to explore collaborations with AI, refining and expanding upon artworks initially generated by artificial intelligence.
In essence, the NFT technology is not merely a guardian of digital art; it is a catalyst for innovation and community-building, poised to reshape the future of art in remarkable ways.
