As millions of Pi Network users eagerly await the second migration phase to convert their minted Pi into cryptocurrency, delays have raised questions within the community. The first migration phase, which successfully migrated over 12 million users, has already seen significant progress, but the timeline for the second phase remains uncertain.
The migration process, which began after Pi Network launched its mainnet, has been a subject of much anticipation. Users who have completed the Know-Your-Customer (KYC) process and participated in the first migration are hoping for additional rewards in the second phase, such as referral mining bonuses for their teams.
The Pi Core team has been transparent about the complexities of the mainnet migration process, unveiling a roadmap for the migration of millions of users. However, despite the considerable progress, there is still no set date for the initiation of the second migration phase.
What is Pi Network’s Mainnet Migration?
Mainnet migration is a large-scale and intricate process involving the transition of Pi balances accumulated over six years. Unlike traditional cryptocurrency projects that rely on simple airdrops, Pi Network’s migration is built on audited mining data, ensuring fairness and protection against cheating.
The migration of over 12 million users has been a major milestone, especially given that the process is executed without requiring any fiat money from users. This unique approach sets Pi Network apart from many other crypto projects.
Why is Pi Network’s Migration Taking Longer?
With a global user base exceeding 60 million, from regions like Nigeria, India, and Vietnam, the migration is a monumental task. While Pi Network has faced delays since its inception in 2019, the scale and complexity of the migration process are key factors in the delay. The Pi Core team has emphasized that their goal is to ensure transparency and fairness, ensuring that the process remains free from cheating or fraudulent accounts.
“The migration needs to occur for a network of tens of millions based on complex mining data over the last 6 years to ensure accuracy, security, and fairness for honest Pioneers by excluding cheating,” explained a recent Pi Network Foundation blog post.
When Will the Second Migration Phase Begin?
Although there has been no official announcement regarding the second migration phase, many anticipate it could begin sometime in Q2 or Q3 of 2025. The Pi Core team has stated that their current priority is to complete the first phase of migration by Q1 of 2025.
As the Pi community awaits further updates, it’s clear that the scale of this migration requires careful planning and execution to ensure a smooth transition for all users.
