A rumor suggesting that Eric Larchevêque, the co-founder of Ledger, had been kidnapped surfaced online today but was swiftly dismissed by key figures in the industry.
The speculation began earlier this morning when a French account on X (formerly Twitter) posted claims that a Ledger executive had been abducted, with the kidnappers allegedly demanding a ransom in Bitcoin. Although the post did not name Larchevêque directly, it included a photo of him and suggested that French authorities, including the GIGN, were investigating the incident in Vierzon, where Larchevêque owns property. The purported kidnapping was said to have occurred in the nearby town of Méreau.
Gregory Raymond, CEO of The Big Whale, quickly refuted the rumors, taking to X to confirm that Larchevêque was not involved in any such incident. “We can confirm that @EricLarch (cofounder of @Ledger) is not involved in the kidnapping rumor,” Raymond stated, emphasizing the dangers of spreading unverified information, which could potentially hinder investigations or endanger lives.
Initial reports from Foresight News and other outlets picked up the claims but later verified them as false. The Bitcoin Vanguard, which initially reported the story, highlighted ongoing police efforts in the area but did not provide any evidence to substantiate the kidnapping allegations.
As of now, neither Eric Larchevêque nor Ledger has issued a public statement regarding the rumors.
