Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson recently heaped praise on Ripple CTO David Schwartz during a live stream, calling him “super smart” and “really passionate” and highlighting his resilience in the face of Ripple’s ongoing legal battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Since December 2020, Ripple has been mired in the legal fight after the SEC accused it of conducting an unregistered securities offering by selling XRP tokens. Although it secured a partial victory in July 2023 when a federal judge ruled XRP isn’t a security when sold on public exchanges, the case is still ongoing with appeals and unresolved penalties.
Hoskinson remains optimistic about Ripple’s future, noting that despite facing delistings, lawsuits, and other hurdles, the company has stayed steadfast. His recent public apology to the XRP community on Nov. 10 signaled a shift in his stance towards Ripple.
Moreover, Hoskinson has confirmed meeting with Schwartz and Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse to discuss potential synergies between the two ecosystems. In a Dec. 8 interview, he revealed that their conversation explored collaboration opportunities between the Cardano and XRP ecosystems, focusing on Cardano’s privacy-centric sidechain Midnight and its smart contract toolkit Marlowe.
He hopes to “include XRP into the Midnight story” and thinks XRP is a better fit for Marlowe than ADA, Cardano’s native token. He also floated the idea of integrating Ripple’s upcoming RLUSD stablecoin into the Cardano blockchain, fueling speculations about a possible Cardano-Ripple collaboration.
